St. James Episcopal Church Mission Project: Liberia
At St. James Episcopal Church in Mansfield, we believe that our faith calls us to reach beyond our own community and share God's love with the world. Each year, we choose a mission project that allows our parish to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. This year, we are proud to support our Liberia Mission Project.
This ministry is led by Trisha Walker, whose deep commitment to the people of Liberia has inspired our congregation to become partners in a life-changing effort. Through her long-standing relationships, regular communication, and firsthand knowledge of the community, Trisha has connected St. James with a ministry that is transforming lives through education.
Our parish is helping support the construction and development of a nursery and primary school in Liberia. What began as a dream is becoming a reality. The school has received approval to open, and children are already gathering for learning activities as the community prepares to welcome its first students.
Throughout the year, Trisha shares updates, photographs, and stories that allow us to witness the progress of the project. From the construction of classrooms and installation of flooring to the joyful faces of children eager to learn, we are reminded that every prayer, donation, and act of generosity helps build a brighter future.
As our parish mission project, the Liberia School Project is much more than a fundraiser. It is a partnership rooted in faith, compassion, and the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to learn in a safe and nurturing environment. It is an opportunity for St. James to live out Christ's commandment to love our neighbors and to recognize that the Church is one body, united across nations and cultures.
Your Generosity at Work
The generosity of our parish family has already made a remarkable impact.
$3,000 has been generously contributed by the St. James Vestry during 2025 and 2026.
$1,700 has been raised through our weekly parish giving campaign, to reach $2,500 this year.
When our current campaign reaches its goal, St. James will have contributed a total of $5,500 to support the Liberia School Project.
Every dollar helps provide educational opportunities, classroom resources, and hope for children and families in Liberia. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed through prayers, financial gifts, and donations of supplies.

Latest Updates from Liberia
The Liberia School Project continues to move forward with exciting progress. The school has received approval to operate, and preparations are underway to welcome students into this new learning community.
Recent updates have shown continued work on the school building, including classroom improvements and preparations for daily learning. Children and families in the community have already begun gathering, participating in activities, and building the relationships that will form the foundation of this school.
The community is filled with anticipation as teachers, students, and families prepare for opening day. We continue to pray for everyone involved—the children who will learn there, the teachers who will guide them, the families who support them, and the leaders who are making this vision possible.
Liberia School Project Supply Drive
Our partnership with the Liberia School Project continues to grow, and thanks to your generosity, we are making a real difference in the lives of children and families.
We are collecting supplies to help equip the new school and support the surrounding community. Whether you purchase something new or have gently used items at home, every donation is appreciated.
Current Needs
- Children's books (toddlers, early readers, and educational books about Africa)
- Encyclopedia sets (2016 or newer)
- Colored pencils
- Crayons
- Black dry erase markers (fine and broad tip)
- Flash cards
- Flip-flops (black, gray, or navy, all sizes)
- Jump ropes
- Ping pong balls
- Soccer balls
- Wooden blocks
- Wooden puzzles
- Reading glasses
- Used mobile phones
- Used laptop computers and tablets (personal data can be securely erased if needed)
A collection suitcase is located on the last pew near the front entrance of the church, beside the weekly donation table.
